What is KiddieCool?
All
children will experience a fever at some point and this can be due to a
variety of causes. While it is important to remember that a raised
temperature is one of the natural coping mechanisms that the body uses to
combat illness, fever can cause your little one to become irritable,
restless and difficult to calm. A rapidly rising or very high fever can be
dangerous and could result in complications such as febrile seizures.
Treating and bringing down a fever is an important part of managing your
child’s illness and will prevent the development of febrile seizures and
help to keep your child more comfortable during illness. Remember, though as
fever is a symptom and not a disease itself, it is always important to
ascertain and treat the cause as well!
Natural Kids KiddieCool is a 100% safe and natural herbal remedy to
reduce your child’s fever and calm irritability. The herbal ingredients
in KiddieCool are specially selected to assist the body to effectively
utilize its own natural cooling mechanisms, while simultaneously soothing
anxiety and irritability. Gentle, yet effective, KiddieCool helps to reduce
fever without the harmful effects of some OTC fever medications. The easy to
administer drop formula is simply diluted in a little water or your child's
favourite juice - making 'medicine time' much easier on small children. The
convenient drop formula is also easily adjusted to suit your child's age.
Like all Feelgood Health products, Natural Kids KiddieCool was developed
with care by our practising Clinical Psychologist, is 100% natural and
manufactured according to the highest pharmaceutical standards. Individual
ingredients are well-researched and have been specially chosen for their
high safety profile in childrens’ remedies.
What are the Ingredients?
Natural Kids Kiddie Cool contains the following carefully
chosen herbal ingredients for combating fever in children safely and
effectively:
Achillea millefolium
(Yarrow) is a tonic herb with antimicrobial properties. Yarrow is
recommended to improve circulation, fight infection and reduce
inflammation. Yarrow is also a diaphoretic herb (causing perspiration) and
is very effective for relieving fevers. For centuries, the Cherokee people
used a tea of common yarrow to reduce fever and aid in restful sleep.
Filipendula ulmaria (Meadowsweet) has a long
history of herbal use and was highly prized by ancient Druids for its
medicinal properties. This herb is a forerunner of aspirin, as salicylic
acid was first synthesized from Meadowsweet in 1835. It is gentler on the
stomach than aspirin because Meadowsweet contains natural buffering agents.
Meadowsweet will reduce inflammation, help break fevers and relieve pain
without the childhood risks of aspirin.
Passiflora incarnata is a herb used widely as a
soothing and safe sedative and can relieve anxiety and irritability as well
as reduce symptoms of pain. Passiflora is also an excellent herb for
promoting restful sleep.
Natural
Kids KiddieCool contains less than 1% pure pharmaceutical grade ethanol when
diluted as directed.
How has Kiddie Cool
helped other children?
“I have been
using Kiddie Cool for my daughter’s temperatures for the last six months
and it is fantastic. My little girl is 18 months old and at day care so she
picks up everything going. I don’t like giving medication to babies so I was
very pleased to find your natural remedy. KiddieCool works quickly and I can
see that she is much happier and more comfortable”
Joyce Taylor, AL
“My eldest son
used to have a seizure nearly every time he had a temperature and I was so
worried about my younger son. I have only used Kiddie Cool for him and so
far no seizures!” CST,
Ohio
“Without a doubt
Feelgood Health is the answer to my family’s well-being. I have been
extremely impressed with all your products that I have tried and Kiddie Cool
is no exception. My children much prefer Kiddie Cool to other mixtures and
it works every time”
Mrs L Bartlett
How do I use
KiddieCool?
Directions: Use
one drop per age year of the child in approximately 1/4 glass of water or
juice. May be repeated every three hours.
Caution:
Not recommended for children under one year old unless under medical
supervision. Please consult a doctor should symptoms persist.
How long until I see results?
A drop in your child’s body temperature should
be noticed shortly after giving the first dose. Continued use of Kiddie Cool
will help to keep your child’s temperature down until the infection has
passed. Remember that it is easier to keep a temperature away than to try
and bring a high temperature down.
Health information on

What should I know about fevers in
Children?
All
children will experience a fever at some point in time and it is the most
common reason for parents to bring their children to the emergency
department. A fever is medically defined as a rectal temperature greater
than 100.4ºF or 38.0ºC. Occasionally a fever is due to serious illness but
most often it is caused by common infections like flu, chicken pox,
tonsilitis, ear infection, etc.
All
children react slightly differently to a fever and it is important to
remember that some children may experience an extremely high fever in
relation to a seemingly mild illness, while others may have a very serious
infection yet only have a mildly raised temperature or none at all.
Nevertheless, there are certain common factors and information that apply to
all fevers in children.
The
most common causes of fever in children are the same as the most common
illnesses in children and these include the following:
-
Colds, flu and upper respiratory tract
infections
-
Tummy bugs
-
Chicken pox, mumps, measles etc
-
Ear and throat infections
-
Lower respiratory tract infections eg
bronchitis, pneumonia
-
Urinary tract infections – this is an
important cause to remember when no other obvious cause for the fever
can be found
What are the other signs that my child
may have a fever?
Aside from a raised temperature, there a number of other symptoms that can
alert you to the fact that your child may have a fever. When they have a
fever, infants and young children may be:
·
Irritable
·
Fussy
·
Lethargic
·
Quieter than normal
·
Not feeding or eating normally
·
Crying more than is normal
·
Breathing rapidly
·
Sleeping more or less than is
normal
In
addition to exhibiting similar behavior changes to infants, the older child
may also complain of the following:
·
Feeling hot or cold
·
Headache
·
Body aches
·
Not being able to sleep well or
feeling tired and wanting to sleep more
·
Not feeling hungry or feeling
extra thirsty
What else can I do at home to reduce my
child’s fever?
The
three key goals when looking after a child with a fever at home are as
follows:
-
Make your child comfortable by monitoring
and reducing the fever.
-
Prevent dehydration by offering plenty of
clear fluids and juices that do not contain caffeine.
-
Monitor your child carefully for any new
symptoms (e.g. rash) and keep monitoring improvement to ensure that the
problem is not getting worse.
There a number of simple measures that you can employ at home to help
reduce your child’s temperature without causing any harm. Try some of these
suggestions next time your child has a fever:
-
Give your child a lukewarm (not cold) bath
and sponge him/her down. Evaporation of the water from the skin will
help to lower temperature.
-
Give your child plenty to drink.
-
Keep your child quiet. Moving around
raises body temperature even more.
-
Dress your child in light cotton pajamas
so that body heat can escape.
-
Do not overdress your child. Use blankets
which can be added with chills and removed when the chill has passed.
-
Keep room temperature at about 70-74ºF or
21-23ºC.
When should I worry?
A
common saying many doctors use is “Don’t treat the thermometer, treat the
child”. This means that your child’s behavior is actually more important
than the number on the thermometer.
Call your doctor if any of the following apply to your child:
-
Infant under three months of age – little
babies can get very ill very quickly and your doctor will want to find
out the cause of your baby’s fever.
-
Persistent raised temperature for more
than 24 hours in infants 3-6 months old.
-
You are unable to control or reduce the
fever.
-
If you are at
all concerned about dehydration or serious illness.
-
If you have already been to the doctor,
but you think your child is getting worse or developing new symptoms.
Seek emergency medical care if:
-
You are worried that your child is
dehydrated – not drinking, excessive vomiting or diarrhea, passing very
little urine.
-
You have serious concerns about your child
and cannot contact your doctor.
-
Your child has a seizure or fit.
-
There is a change in your child’s level of
consciousness - or your child becomes lethargic, limp or unresponsive.
-
Your child develops a red or purple rash.
-
Your child has any signs of difficulty
breathing or starts to wheeze.
-
Your child complains of headache that
won’t go away or stiff neck.
-
There are marked changes in behavior.
-
There is constant vomiting and diarrhea
which does not resolve.
-
Your child has pain in the stomach, throat
or ear that is not improving.
-
You notice swelling of the fontanel (soft
spot on the top of your baby’s head)
Febrile Seizures or
Convulsions – what do I need to know?
Febrile seizures or convulsions are caused by fever and usually occur in
children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years, with a peak incidence
from 8 to 20 months. The onset tends to be dramatic with little or no
warning and in most instances the seizure is over within a few minutes.
About 2-5% of all children will experience a febrile seizure and of these
about one third may experience them more than once.
Febrile seizures usually occur with particularly high fevers, but can also
occur with more moderate fevers. In general the seizure itself does not
cause brain damage and does not lead to epilepsy. Although any illness
leading to a fever can result in a febrile seizure it is always important to
rule out a central nervous system infection, such as meningitis.
Most febrile seizures involve the whole body and you may notice the
following:
-
Stiffening of the whole body with jerking
of the arms and legs
-
Eyes may roll back, deviate or stare
-
Your child may wet his or her pants
-
Breathing may be noisy, slow and labored
The
majority of febrile seizures last between 1-5 minutes (although it may feel
like eternity!) and afterwards most children tend to be drowsy, and possibly
twitchy, but they usually start to respond within 15-30 minutes.
What can I do at home if my child has a
febrile seizure?
Before calling your doctor or taking your child to the emergency department
you will need to cope with the seizure yourself. It is extremely frightening
and distressing to witness your child having a seizure, especially if it is
the first time, and we hope that the following information will leave you
feeling a little better prepared.
The
main objective during a seizure is to protect the airway, so that breathing
is not affected, and also to prevent injury. Here are some guidelines about
what to do if your child has a febrile convulsion at home:
-
Remove any objects from your child’s mouth
– eg pacifiers, food
-
Place your child on his or her side
-
If your child has vomited and you have a
suction bulb you can clear the vomit from the mouth
-
Lift the chin up if breathing is noisy or
labored
-
Do not try and restrain your child or stop
the movements
-
Clear any dangerous objects near your
child that may be knocked over
-
Do not force anything into the mouth (e.g.
a spoon) – there is no danger that the tongue may be swallowed.
