What are Sniffly Sprinkles?
When your child is sickly
it can be difficult to know what to do! Your little one has a runny and
stuffy nose, can’t breathe easily, is irritable, clingy and won’t eat or
sleep… nothing you do for them seems to help at all and they seem to get
more and more miserable.

children. Sniffly Sprinkles is also a wonderful remedy for settling kids
who are miserable and restless due to illness.

What
are the ingredients?
Sniffly Sprinkles
contains the following carefully chosen herbal and homeopathic ingredients:
Influenzinum
(C30) is an oral “homeopathic vaccine” for flu. Due to
the method of manufacture, this remedy is very safe, is not associated with
side effects generally linked to the orthodox vaccines and contains no
molecular evidence of live virus. A proprietary preparation is produced each
year using the flu virus strains recommended by the World Health
Organization for the year's vaccine production.
Baccillum (C30) is a homeopathic remedy for congestion, coughing and
all types of respiratory ailments.
Nat. Mur. (6C) is a homeopathic remedy which is excellent for
children who are constantly sneezing and have a
dripping nose. Also very effective for children prone to sinus problems.
Nux
vom. (6C) is a proven homeopathic remedy used for headaches and
prolonged bouts of sneezing. This remedy addresses the problem of streaming
nose during the day and blocked nose at night. Nux vom. will calm
restlessness in sick children.
Alium cepa (6C) is a homeopathic remedy which quickly treats
stinging, burning, streaming nose and eyes and stops violent sneezing
attacks, while reducing inflammation in the nasal passages and eyes.
Achillea millefolium (Yarrow) is a tonic herb which will improve
circulation and reduce inflammation. Yarrow also has antibacterial
properties, preventing secondary infection.
Mentha piperita
is an herb from the mint family with excellent
anti-inflammatory properties. Laboratory research studies have found this
herb to have antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial activity. An excellent
natural remedy for relieving fever and headache.
Lactose
(inactive ingredient)

for a great kids’ remedy that really works!' Becky

How
are Sniffly Sprinkles used?
Sniffly Sprinkles are presented in fine pleasant tasting lactose granules
that are simply sprinkled on the child's tongue where they dissolve easily.
This makes Sniffly Sprinkles a pleasure to administer to children, including
babies. Even children who have lost their appetites due to illness will
readily take their Sniffly Sprinkles!
Directions: Sprinkle
a pinch onto the tongue every hour until symptoms subside. Thereafter use
three times daily for 2 - 3 days.
Caution:
Sniffly Sprinkles have a high safety profile. However, as a precaution, all medicines, including natural remedies, are not
recommended for babies under 6 months unless under medical supervision.

Health information on colds and flu in children
All of our
remedies are carefully formulated and manufactured according to the
principles of naturopathic medicine to promote healthy body systems and to
maintain and encourage normal healthy functioning of all body organs,
including the chest,
nose and respiratory system.
It is important
to promote the education and awareness of the public in terms of the link between
lifestyle and long term health. It is in the spirit of
helping to increase awareness of the relationship between diet, lifestyle
and health that we offer the following information on upper respiratory
tract infections in children. Please note that this information is offered
for educational purposes only and is not intended to be a substitute for
professional medical attention. When in doubt, please consult your health
practitioner.
Colds and Flu
Colds and flu are
infections which mainly involve the upper respiratory tract and are caused
by viruses. Colds and flu can cause many of the same symptoms, but a cold
is generally milder, while flu tends to be more severe.
There are more than
100 different viruses that can cause the common cold! Flu is also caused by
viruses - the Influenza virus. There are fewer viruses that cause flu and
this is why a vaccination can be produced.
Symptoms of colds and
flu's.
The first signs and symptoms of a cold normally present as feeling tired, sneezing, coughing and having a runny nose. Your child
may not have a fever at all or may run a low fever - just 1 or 2 degrees
higher than usual. Flu generally starts more suddenly and can be more severe.
Weakness and fatigue are common. Your child may have a fever, dry cough, a
runny nose, chills, muscle aches, a headache and a sore throat. It usually
takes longer to get over the flu than a cold.
Both illnesses can
cause children to become miserable and grouchy. Flu often leads to decreased
appetite and refusal to eat. Often, with the difficulties of breathing
through a blocked nose, sleep becomes problematic too.
Why are children more
susceptible to colds and flu?
Childrens’ immune
systems are not as strong or well-developed as adults’, making them more
vulnerable to infections of all types. Children who go to kindergarten,
day-care and after-care are particularly at risk as they come into close
contact with many other children every day and we all know that hygiene and
hand-washing are not always top priorities for little ones!
How are Colds and Flu usually treated?
Colds and flu are usually treated with bed-rest and
symptomatic medication until the body’s own immune system overcomes the
infection. There are no allopathic medications to cure colds or flu. Although
antibiotics are sometimes prescribed, they are not effective against viruses
and will only help in the case of secondary infections. Children who become
repeatedly infected due to exposure at day care centers may find themselves
on one course of antibiotic after the other, often compounding the problem.
Over the counter medicines like paracetamol, as well as
various cough and cold products are often used to treat symptoms. However,
many of these come with side effects. Decongestant drugs can be very
effective, but cause side-effects like increased irritability and
hyperactivity. They can also “over-dry” the nose and mucus membranes -
causing discomfort. It is also important to remember that all of the
symptoms of colds and flu (e.g. coughing, sneezing and running nose) are
nature's way of trying to drive the virus from the body and one should
therefore take medicines like cough suppressants and decongestants with
caution as they can prolong the illness and even make it worse in the long
run.
How can I prevent colds and flu in my child?
A strong and healthy immune system will protect your child
from all types of illnesses, including colds and flu. Keep your child’s
immunity in peak condition with the following tips:
-
As a
deficiency of certain vitamins and minerals can weaken the immune system,
it is important to feed your child a healthy, balanced diet. Ensure a
wide variety of fruit and vegetables and limit junk food and candy. If
your child is a picky eater or avoids healthy food like the plague, use
a daily multivitamin supplement, including Vitamin C and zinc.
Limiting the
bacteria and viruses that your child comes into contact with, will also
decrease their risk of falling ill.
