What is BabyNature's Nipple Conditioning Cream?
Nipple Conditioning Cream is a wonderfully soothing and healing
cream for painful and cracked nipples in the breastfeeding mum.
It may used during the last few weeks of pregnancy to prepare
the nipples for breastfeeding and also once your baby has been
born - to continue to provide protection and ensure nipple
health.
How can BabyNature's Nipple Conditioning Cream help me?
Nursing your new baby should be a wonderful and precious experience
- not only of feeding your child, but also of bonding between
the two of you. For many new mothers, the first few days
of breastfeeding may cause the nipples to become sensitive and
tender. This is quite normal and will generally resolve
on its own within a few days. However, for some women, the
problem may be worse. Sore, cracked and even bleeding nipples
can occur. These difficulties may obviously make breastfeeding
painful and unpleasant and can rob the mother of the joy of nursing
her baby.
The most common cause of painful and cracked nipples is a problem
with positioning and although this is theoretically preventable,
it is very common as few mothers perfect the art of breastfeeding
immediately. Also, once the damage has occurred, healing
may be delayed and difficult, and breastfeeding painful.
BabyNature Nipple Conditioning Cream has been specially
formulated for nursing mums’ nipples. This cream will naturally
condition the skin, prevent damage and infection and encourage
healing of any cracks in the nipple, allowing breastfeeding to
be a pleasant and joyous experience once again.

How do I use Nipple Conditioning Cream?
Before birth:
Gently massage into the nipple and surrounding area two to three
times daily during the last 2 - 3 weeks of pregnancy.
After birth:
After breastfeeding, wipe the nipple area with a clean damp cloth.
Gently massage BabyNature's Nipple Conditioning Cream into the
nipple and surrounding area. Rinse or wipe clean with a clean
warm cloth before the next feed.
What are the Ingredients?
Nipple Conditioning Cream contains the following proven, natural
ingredients:
Calc Flour. is a biochemic tissue salt particularly
useful for the healing of chapped and cracked skin. It may
be used
for nipples, hands and feet and any area of skin exposed to cold
or callus-causing friction.
Vitamin E Oil is
widely used to promote skin healing, protect cells from free-radical
damage and reduce discomfort and itchiness. Many people use Vitamin
E products topically to ensure optimal skin health.
Silica is another
biochemic tissue salt which is essential in the maintenance of
healthy and strong skin and is the main component in all connective
body tissues. Silica also stimulates cell metabolism and
cell formation, improving strength and resilience of tissue.
Calendula officinalis (Marigold) is a herbal ingredient
used to treat skin problems and promote healing of wounds. It
is an excellent anti-inflammatory and prevents infection with
its anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties.
Marigold has been shown to assist in the regeneration of damaged
skin tissue.
Chamomile soothes skin
rashes, irritation and burns. This herb will reduce pain,
discomfort, itching and inflammation. Chamomile also speeds
up the healing process and prevents
bacterial infection.

FAQ’s
Can I still breastfeed if I have cracked nipples?
Yes, you certainly can! Babies are not generally worried
about cracked nipples and even if your nipples are bleeding, the
blood won’t harm them. Of course the process may be quite
painful and it is a good idea to start nursing on the less painful
side as your baby will be gentler and less vigorous on the second
breast he/she is offered. You may also like to numb the
affected area with some ice just prior to feeding. Speak
to a lactation consultant about correct positioning so that the
underlying problem can be solved and doesn’t further damage your
nipples. Correcting the positioning of your baby when nursing
may substantially improve the comfort of breast-feeding as well
as allow the nipples to heal.
If feeding is too painful, milk must be gently expressed from
the breast in order to prevent engorgement or infection and to
ensure the ongoing supply of breastmilk while your nipples are
healing.
What else can cause cracked nipples?
Be wary of overexposure to very dry or cold air, deodorants, harsh
or antibacterial soaps, powder or laundry detergent as these can
all contribute to irritation and dryness of the skin and can cause
or aggravate cracked nipples. Some women also find that
using a breast pump can hurt the nipples, especially if not used
gently or used too often.
When do I need to contact my health care provider?
Contact your lactation consultant or doctor if you notice any
of the following signs of infection:
Fever, redness, warmth, swelling or discharge of pus.

What else can help?
-
Change your baby’s nursing position and speak to a lactation
consultant if you are having difficulties or are unsure of
correct positioning. As incorrect latching and breastfeeding
technique can cause cracked nipples, it is best to resolve
positioning problems as early as possible to prevent further
pain and discomfort.
-
Nurse your baby often, but for a shorter time. This
will provide you with frequent breaks without depriving your
baby of all the milk he/she needs. If you don’t nurse
at all for several hours your baby will become more hungry
and will feed more vigorously (and painfully).
-
Avoid using soap, deodorants, powder or anything but clean
water on your nipples.
-
Try to keep
the nipple area dry in-between feeds. Wet, soggy and cracked
nipples will not heal well and are vulnerable to infection!
-
Exposing
your breasts to natural sunlight for about 15 - 20 minutes
each day will also help to heal the cracked area and strengthen
the skin. However, avoid the sun during 11 am to 3 pm in hot
climates to prevent sunburn, especially if you are fair skinned!
-
Try not to give up too easily. If you are having trouble breastfeeding,
firstly know that you are not alone. Breast-feeding
is a skill to be learnt and doesn’t come naturally to many
women. Problems with latching your baby, technique and
milk volume are extremely common. A breast-feeding consultant
will be able to help you with difficulties of technique and
positioning as well as provide support, advice and encouragement.
The investment into getting it right will be worth it in terms
of the future health of your child as well as the opportunity
to create that special, deep bond with your baby.

Nipple Conditioning Cream
How has BabyNature's Nipple Conditioning Cream helped others?
'I really love your Nipple Conditioning Cream! My cracked nipples
had made breastfeeding a horrible and painful process and I was
even beginning to feel resentful about it. With your wonderful
cream and by correcting my technique with the help of a lactation
consultant, my nipples are feeling a lot better and breastfeeding
is once again the joy it used to be be. Thank you again!' Mary-Ann, IL
'I was very pleased to find your BabyNature website with the
wonderful range of products for pregnancy and new mums!
I had been specifically looking for a natural alternative to lanolin
for my nipples which were suffering the ravages of breast-feeding
my son who has recently acquired a few teeth! I was repulsed
by the idea of using sheep’s lanolin - which is what my doctor
recommended - on my skin, especially as some of this would invariably
land up in my son’s mouth. I was thrilled when I found your
all-natural Nipple Conditioning Cream and it has certainly done
the trick!'
